Free gin festival returns to Great Malvern

Drinkers of gin are in for a treat as Great Malvern gets set to host its very own festival dedicated to the popular spirit.

The Great Malvern Gin Festival is free and takes place from 6 to 8 October.

There are nine popular venues signed up to take part with more than 100 gins available to test out from the classic tastes to the weird and wonderful.

While people are enjoying their tipple, there will be live music and an opportunity to talk to the experts. Special gin cocktails will be available to sample during the weekend.

For the dedicated drivers and non-gin lovers there will be plenty of non-alcoholic drinks to try as well.

The following venues signed up to take part: The Fig, The Great Malvern Hotel, Malvern Cellar, Malvern Lounge, Bar Limon, The Water Cure, Faun, Weavers and The Red Lion.

Malvern Cellar will not only be offering cocktails throughout the festival, but you can go and talk to the experts Angus and Lewis who can showcase over 90 gins.

Special guests and experts from Malvern Gin will also be in Malvern Cellar between 12pm-4pm on Saturday 8 October where you can sample local gins made from Hollywell Malvern Spring Water.

Roaming musicians will include Julia Palmer Price and Mark Leedham. The full schedule will be announced nearer the time.

Trail maps will be available to download from the website or will be available in participating venues.

The event is part of the council's ambition to increase the number of events across the district to generate footfall and support businesses as part of the new Town Centre Plans.

Cllr Daniel Walton, Portfolio Holder for Economic Development and Tourism at Malvern Hills District Council, said: "Following a successful festival last year, fans of gin will again be able to enjoy three days dedicated to it. There will be so much to choose from throughout the weekend as well as live entertainment to enjoy. We hope this provides a welcome boost to our hospitality businesses. We want people to enjoy themselves but please do so responsibly."
