Malvern Well Dressing Festival returns with 'Planets and Stars' theme

The Malvern Well Dressing Festival will return next weekend and this year's theme promises to be out of this world.

The popular festival, which will be held from Saturday 1 May to Sunday 9 May 2021, will see up to 49 wells and spouts creatively decorated in the theme of 'Planets and Stars'.

The annual event celebrates Malvern's history, from its iconic spring water and Victorian Water Cure to the area's ancient Pagan traditions. It is brought to the town by the Malvern Spa Association with local businesses and community groups taking part.

Visitors can view the wonderful creations by purchasing a map from the Malvern Tourist Information Centre for £1 and setting off across the hills on foot, by bicycle or on a self-drive tour.

The map can also be downloaded for free at www.visitthemalverns.org/welldressing.

Unfortunately, due to Covid-19 safety restrictions the Water Festival activities, minibus tours and public well blessings will not go ahead.

The Malvern Spa Association Summer Exhibition will also be held next week on Church Walk from Waitrose to the Priory Gateway. Visitors will be able to enjoy a range of breath-taking photos from Monday 26 April to the end of June.

Victoria Carman, Visitor Economy Officer at Malvern Hills District Council, said: "We are thrilled to hear Malvern Well Dressing will go ahead. It is wonderful that families and local community groups are coming together to dress the wells, springs and spouts to celebrate Malvern's rich history. Thank you to the Malvern Spa Association for all their hard work in helping to make this happen".

Covid-19 Government guidelines must always be followed during the event.
